Using Due Dates in Hypertasks

Due dates help you stay organized and ensure important tasks are completed on time. Hypertasks offers an intelligent date selection system that makes setting deadlines quick and intuitive, along with powerful filtering and sorting options to manage your due dates effectively.

How to Set a Due Date

Setting a due date for any task is simple:

1. Select or open the task you want to modify

2. Press the D key on your keyboard

3. The intelligent date selector will appear

Using the Intelligent Date Selector

Our date selector understands natural language inputs, making it faster to set deadlines without navigating through calendar menus. You can:

- Type specific days: tomorrow, Friday, Wednesday

- Set relative times: in 5 minutes, in 1 hour, in 3 hours

- Specify future dates: next week Monday

The system automatically interprets these inputs and sets the appropriate due date.

Managing Due Dates

Once a due date is set:

- Tasks will display their due date in the task list

- Tasks that pass their due date will move to your inbox with a red dot indicator

- You can modify or remove a due date at any time by pressing D again

Filtering by Due Date

Hypertasks allows you to create views that show only tasks with due dates:

1. Press Shift + F or click the filter icon in the header to open the filter menu

2. Select Due date from the available filters

3. Choose from the following options:

  • Any (shows all tasks with due dates)

  • Today

  • Yesterday

  • Custom Range

This filtering capability helps you focus on time-sensitive tasks and manage your deadlines more effectively.

Sorting by Due Date

You can also sort your tasks by due date to prioritize your work:

1. Press Shift + S or click the sort icon in the header to access the sort options

2. Select Due Date from the sorting options

3. Your board will automatically update to show tasks ordered by their deadlines

When using due date sorting:

  • Tasks with earlier due dates will appear at the top

  • Tasks without due dates will appear at the bottom

  • You can quickly identify which tasks need immediate attention
